Eichenkranz Restaurant at 611 Fagley Street, which has served traditional German and American food since it was established in 1894, closed its doors for good on Thursday, April 30, 2015.

The owner, Harold Bowles, is retiring thus ending the almost century-long Brewer’s Hill legacy. It has been one of the only German restaurants in the city, serving traditional favorites like wiener schnitzel and sour beef.

In 1894, Eichenkranz was started as a social club and singing society for German immigrants who relocated to Canton and Highlandtown, who still wanted a taste of their former homes.
