Yesterday morning, firefighters battled another four-alarm blaze at 517 S. Broadway, the same building that burned in early June of this year, which had housed the Fresh Foods grocery store.
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, just over 100 firefighters responded to the fire, which started at approximately 4:25 a.m., according to Captain Roman Clark of the Baltimore Fire Department. Clark said that the fire was basically under control by 10:15 a.m.
The building was vacant at the time of the second blaze. Clark said that demolition to the rear of the building had been underway prior to yesterday’s fire. Now, according to to Clark, the building’s owners are deciding whether to shore up and preserve the front facade, or demolish the whole thing.
The building has some historical significance.
No injuries were reported.
Clark said that the cause of the fire was under investigation and no further information was available at press time.
On Oct. 4 of this year, the Fell’s Point Liquor and Bar, just around the corner at 1709 Fleet St., also burned.
