Back by popular demand: Movies in the park

Movies in Little Italy, movies on the Broadway Pier, and now movies in Patterson Park.

Actually, there were movies projected in Patterson Park as recently as 2010.

“We took a two-year hiatus,” explained Friends of Patterson Park Program Director Katie Long. “We stopped for awhile, and people noticed.”

Last week, the film was “E.T.”

“We had a wonderful turnout for the first movie,” Long said.

This week, Friday night at 7:30 p.m., it’s “The Muppets Take Manhattan.” But before that, around 7 p.m., the Friends of Patterson Park will screen “Our Second Story,” a brief documentary made by local residents in conjunction with Communities for All Ages and the Greenpants/Luminous Intervention Projection Project.

“Our Second Story” explores first impressions and stereotypes of people and neighborhoods, as well as residents’ experiences of coming to and living in Baltimore.

Movies are shown on the Patterson Park “extension field,” which is east of Linwood Ave.

“We try to do programming over there, too,” said Long.

In addition to the movies, attendees will be able to order pizzas, salads and desserts for delivery from Verde. The Canton pizzeria—which has very rapidly established itself as a Baltimore favorite—is the title sponsor that makes the Patterson Park movies possible.
