Volunteer at the JMM: The Jewish Museum of Maryland, 15 Lloyd Street, observes National Volunteer Week, April 15-21. Volunteers currently serve as receptionists, guides, shop assistants, archival, curatorial, and office assistants, as well as at special events. On Thursday, April 19, 10 a.m.-noon is “Bring a Friend to your Volunteer Job Day.” A variety of activities will be offered, including tours of the synagogues, behind-the-scenes tours of the Collections, an Archival demonstration, tours of the Exhibits, and discounts in the Museum Gift Shop. The 9th Annual Baltimore Green Week runs April 20-28 and features the Eco-Fest, which takes place on April 21, noon-5 p.m., in Druid Hill Park. Activities at Eco-Fest include tree planting, a history walk, gardening presentations, a tour and more. Drug Drop-Off: On Saturday, April 28, the Baltimore County Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will collect potentially dangerous prescription drugs only from area residents. The DEA National Take Back Initiative is an effort to get unused drugs out of the house and disposed of in a safe and secure manner.
Locally, the drop-off for old and unneeded prescriptions is Precinct 12/North Point, 1747 Merritt Blvd. in Dundalk. The site will be staffed from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
No questions will be asked of those dropping off prescriptions. Residents are asked to remove or obscure any identifying information (the patient’s name, prescription number, etc.) to maintain privacy.
Note: This is for prescriptions and medications, no illegal drugs or syringes.
Household Haz-Mat Drop-Off Days: Household haz-mats, which include paint cans, pesticides, car batteries and more, can be disposed of at the Northwest Citizen Convenience Center, 2840 Sisson Street, on the last Friday and Saturday of each month. Those dates are Fridays and Saturdays as follows: April 27-28 (9 a m.-5 p.m.), May 25-26 (9 a.m.-5 p.m.), June 29-30 (9 a.m.-7 p.m.), July 27-28 (9 a.m.-7 p.m.), Aug. 24-25 (9 a.m.-7 p.m.), Sept. 28-29 (9 a.m.-5 p.m.), October 26-27 (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Nov. 23-24 (9 a.m.-5 p.m.).
