Can Company Concerts: The Can Company expands its free Thursday night outdoor concert series in 2014, with double the number of live performances. Bring your chairs and celebrate the summer while enjoying live music, festival food, happy hour specials, and family activities. Thursdays, 6-9 p.m., through September 11, with the exception of the first Thursday of every month, when WTMD First Thursdays shows are held at Canton Waterfront Park. The Can Company participants include: Langermann’s, Chesapeake Wine Company, Cold Stone Creamery, Outback Steakhouse, Soyombo Grille, Pasticcio’s, Vircity, and more. Saturday, June 28
Free Saturday Sports Club on Utz Twardowicz Field: June 28, children ages 5 to 14 are invited to play quick ball,  a fun, fast-paced game combining baseball and softball skills where teamwork is key. No equipment   or experience necessary. 9 -10:30 a.m. Adult fitness class and yoga for children are offered concurrently at no cost. Located at the Patterson Park Youth Sports & Education Center, 200 S. Linwood Ave. Call 410-878-0563 with questions. Register at no cost on Saturday mornings.
Mexican Folktales and Dance for Kids: This class is for kids ages two- four. Young ones learn storytelling and movement while listening to Latino folktales like “Tio Juan,” the Mexican version of “Old MacDonald.” 11-11:50 a.m. $40 for the entire session, $5 per class.

Recycling Bin Sale at DPW: The DPW will be holding a special one-day Independence Day sale on their popular yellow recycling bins.The sale will take place on July 1. The 25-gallon bins will be reduced in price to $7. The 18-gallon bins will be sold for $4. Lids for the larger bins will also be available for purchase at $3 each. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Abel Wolman Municipal Building, at 200 Holliday St.

Eastpoint Mall Farmers Market: Purchase fresh food from local farmers, every Wednesday through Oct. 9. The farmers market is 10 a.m.-2 p.m., in the parking lot across from McDonald’s.

July 10, Youth Birding: This free service-learning event on Thursday, July 10, 8-10 a.m., is for students in grades 6-12. Join Audubon as citizen scientists. Collect data on urban bird species and share your findings with the greater scientific community. No experience necessary. July 11, Urban Birdwatching: Meet at the marble fountain; walk is Friday, July 11, 8-9:30 a.m. Audubon experts will lead us in search of feathered friends. City Pools: Park Pool hours: Monday–Friday 12:30-7 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 12:30- 7 p.m. Pool admission fees for the 2014 swim season are $2 for park pools. Rec and Parks also offers Summer Season Passes for park pools for $30. Pools remain open until September 1 (Labor Day).
Preschool Program: United Evangelical Church’s PACT preschool program (Parents and Teachers Together) has fall 2014 openings for 3-year-olds.     This program starts in September and classes are held two days per week. Please contact PACT’s director, Concetta Clark, at 410-995-0118.     United is located at 3200 Dillon St.(corner of Dillon Street and East Avenue) in Canton.
Vacation Bible School: Sacred Heart of Mary Church is holding vacation Bible school from July 7-11, 9 a.m.-noon., for students preK-8. The theme is “Saints of Our Time,” and there will be arts, crafts, films and music. The camp is at the parish office, 6727 Duluth Ave. Info: 410-633-2828.

Calls for Designs, Great Halloween Lantern Parade: The parade’s theme is kaleidoscope. The Creative Alliance is commissioning light sculptures and wants your designs. A new and more dramatic parade route starts at the Boat Lake, across Linwood Ave, into the Annex Park, and back to the Pulaski Monument. The lantern parade will be held Oct. 25. The Creative Alliance is looking for big, bright (over 10 feet tall) multicultural floats and performances for the Great Halloween Lantern Parade in Patterson Park. The top ten proposals will be awarded $250. The top two proposals will be awarded $400 each and a Neighborhood Halloween Parade Studio at  Patterson Park’s Pool House or the Crown Industrial Park  in the Highlandtown Arts & Entertainment District.
