Dubar’s defense dominated Saturday night as the Poets took n 18-6 win against City College.
The Poets’ defense held the Black Knights to only 56 total yards for the entire contest. Dunbar wide receiver/defensive back Aaron Haynes had a stellar game, taking an interception for a touchdown, intercepting another pass and taking a 39-yard reception for a touchdown on a broken play.
Haynes, a senior, doesn’t have any college offers yet, but coach Lawrence Smith said plenty of schools are interested in Haynes.
“The offers are coming soon,” Smith said.
City College (1-1) only had one first down the entire game, which came in the third quarter. The Black Knights scored their only touchdown on defense, after Poets quarterback William Crest threw an interception returned for six points near the end of the first half.
Smith said the defense played “lights out,” but that the offense needed work.
Dunbar (2-1) will return to the field when it plays at Mervo next Friday.
