On Monday, May 5, at approximately 4:38 p.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of E. Monument Street for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived they found two shooting victims inside a nail salon. The first victim is a 26-year-old man who was shot in the leg. The second victim is a 34-year-old woman who was shot in the head.
Both victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The female victim was pronounced deceased at 5:12 p.m. by medical staff.
The victims were inside of a business located in the 2300 Block of E. Monument St. when a man walked inside the business, produced an unknown caliber handgun and began shooting at the male victim. The male victim and female victim were both struck by the gunfire.
Arrested on murder, assault and handgun charges was Tremaine Washington, 26, last known address Fulton Ave., unit block. Police reports state that Washington was tackled by another person at the nail salon after the shooting.
As of yesterday, the surviving male victim was listed in critical condition.
