Community organizations that need funding (are there any that don’t?) have the opportunity to get it — provided they can stick to a schedule and follow the rules.

Organizations can receive grants of up to $1,000 for community events, such as street festivals, flea markets, health fairs, back-to-school rallies, talent shows, neighborhood clean-ups and block parties. The only stipulation is that the event must be free and open to the public.
The program is offered this year by Municipal Employees Credit Union (MECU), Baltimore’s Credit Union, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the Baltimore Office of Promotion and The Arts.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 30 by 5 p.m. Applications are online at www.promotionandarts.com; users can click on the link for “Grants.”
The MECU Neighborhood Event Grants program provides funding to nonprofit organizations to conduct special projects that rengage residents.
Grant recipients are required to send one representative from the organization to attend a mandatory workshop. The workshop (which is mandatory) is held on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the MECU main office,.
More information on the grant program is available online; those who are interested can go to www.promotionandarts.com or call 410-752-8632.
