Making college affordable
If the ivy walls of college are hiding behind a big cloud of doubt, some help is on the way.

The Maryland Public Television rebroadcast of “You Can Afford College” runs on December 28 at 2 p.m.Each year, the program presents updated college financial aid information and new interviews.

The show examines new avenues for obtaining scholarships and grants, common pitfalls in planning for one’s college education finances and how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Viewers can obtain free personalized advice directly from a financial aid professional via phone (800-222-1292), Twitter (#MPTycac) or e-mail (outreach@mpt.org) during the live show.

A Spanish-language version of “You Can Afford College” will be available online at video.mpt.tv in January 2012. Information is available at mpt.org.

College Goal Sunday
Those who would rather receive in-person should know that College Goal Sunday, a free program where high school students can receive in-person help in filling out the FAFSA, will be presented in Baltimore on Sunday, Jan. 22, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Druid Hill YMCA (1609 Druid Hill Avenue), on Sunday, Feb. 5 from noon-3 p.m. at Loyola University Main Campus (4501 N. Charles Street), and on Saturday, Feb. 11, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Ray of Hope Baptist Church (3000 Parkside Drive).

Education for adults
Patterson Park Public Charter School offers free classes for adults starting in 2012.

The Center for Downtown Judaism at B’nai Israel, 27 Lloyd St, has free classes meeting on Thursdays, now through May 31. Come to one or all; contents of classes are self-contained).

On Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m.-9 p.m., learn about the development of Jewish thought in the modern period.

On Thursdays from 7:30 p.m.-9 p.m., enjoy close readings of the Gospel of Mark and an interfaith dialogue.

On Thursdays, from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., there’s “Yoreh Deah” (prerequisites required).
