Incidents reported in Patterson Park; South Broadway stores robbed

N. Haven St., 200 block, June 9, 3:34 a.m. A man told police that he was in an argument with another man who punched him, knocked him to the ground, and continued to assault him. Another male suspect then joined in on the assault. The first suspect took the victim’s property; both suspects fled.

S. Linwood Ave., 200 block, June 9, 4:40 p.m. A 12-year-old girl reported being attacked by a group of 30 to 40 juveniles, male and female, inside the tennis courts in Patterson Park. She reported that her glasses were taken during the assault.

E. Baltimore St., 2300 block, June 9, 4:43 p.m. Two victims told police that a large group of youths who had just left the Patterson Park pool surrounded and assaulted them. The two victims’ cell phones were taken during the assault. During an area canvass, a large group of males matching the victims’ description was stopped in the 600 block of N. Kenwood. They scattered upon arrival, but two of the suspects were detained. One of the suspects had one of the victims’ phones in his possession. The two suspects were arrested.

S. Broadway, 200 block, June 9, 8:07 p.m. The convenience store reported that a male suspect walked in and purchased a soda. When the clerk opened the register, the suspect walked around behind the counter and demanded the cash, telling the clerk not to look at him. The suspect removed the money from both registers and also took cigarettes and put them in a bag. A second suspect stood at the door and acted as a lookout. Both suspects fled.

E. Baltimore St., 2900 block, June 9, 11:30 p.m. A woman said that she was walking with her friend when they came upon a group of three teenaged males. As one of the girls walked past with her cell phone in her hand, one of the men grabbed her around her body. She screamed and he told her to shut up and took her phone, threatening to kill her. The three men then ran away westbound.

S. Broadway, 200 block, June 10, 4:45 p.m. The store reported that two women entered and then tried to leave with five pairs of jeans without paying. An employee tried to stop the women, and they struggled over the jeans. Then, one of the women maced the employee, and both suspects fled. A warrant was obtained for one of the suspects.

Eastern Ave., 4000 block, June 11, 8:06 a.m. The store manager reported that the suspect took detergent pods and put them in a duffle bag. When the manager confronted the suspect, he pulled out a can of mace and pointed it at her. He then pushed his cart into her and fled the store. Two men doing landscaping work at the store followed him and trapped him in a backyard. The suspect was arrested, and the property was returned to the store.

Dundalk Ave., 1700 block, June 13, 8 a.m. The victim was at the location, sleeping on the couch. The owner of the property left for a walk and left the door unlocked. The victim woke up to see her children’s father, who did not have permission to be at that house. He asked her if she was coming home. She said no, and he grabbed her purse. A warrant was obtained.

S. Linwood Ave., 200 block, June 13, 3:10 p.m. A teenaged boy reported that he was walking through the park when he was approached by three males in their late teens. They surrounded him and demanded everything from his pockets. At first, the victim did not understand their demand. One of the suspects nodded to a suspect standing behind the victim, and that suspect put the victim in a choke hold. The other two went through his pockets, stealing an iPhone and $3. The suspects fled to the north. The incident was witnessed by two people.

E. Fairmount Ave., 2200 block, June 14, 5 p.m. The victim went to a corner store and bought some soda and candy. On the way home, she passed two males in their late teens or early 20s. They ran up behind her when she passed and began punching her. They grabbed her phone and soda and fled. The victim went home and told her boyfriend. He reviewed security footage at the store and then drove around until he found one of the suspects. He called the police; the suspect was arrested.

McElderry St., 2500 block, June 15, 6:46 a.m. The victim was in a dispute with her boyfriend, who slapped her in the face as she called 911, grabbed her phone and ran off. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

N. Milton Ave., 200 block, June 15, 7 a.m. The suspect walked into the grocery store and asked for crisp rice cereal and a pack of Newport cigarettes. The reporting person bagged the items and told the suspect the price. The suspect grabbed his right pocket and told the victim, “If you move, I will kill you.” The victim felt as if the suspect had a knife; the suspect fled. The store’s security cameras were not working at the time of the incident.

E. Lombard St., 800 block, June 15, 12:18 p.m. The victim was sitting on her steps using her phone when the male suspect walked up and asked if he could use it. She told him that she would dial the number and hold the phone for him in speaker mode while he spoke. The suspect tried to grab the phone, but the victim bit him and held on to it. He then punched her twice in the face, went into her purse, and grabbed her leather Coach wallet. He fled to the north.

S. Broadway, 500 block, June 15, 5:18 p.m. A man came into the convenience store and pointed a gun at the clerk, demanding that he put up his hands and not look at him. The victim complied and got on his knees. The suspect opened the register and took an unknown amount of cash. He went through the clerk’s pockets, taking his cell phone. The suspect then fled the store.
