Liquor Board executive secretary Michelle Bailey-Hedgepeth confirmed that a new chairman has been appointed to the Board of Liquor License Commissioners for Baltimore City.
“Judge Thomas Ward is the new chair,” Bailey-Hedgepeth said.
Ward, a retired Circuit Court judge, will be sworn in today or tomorrow. His first hearing as Liquor Board chair will be June 26.
According to his bio in the Maryland State Archives website, msa.maryland.gov, Ward’s past includes time as a Baltimore City Councilman (1963-1967), a soldier in the U.S. Army’s parachute infantry, and a reporter for the Baltimore Sun (1951-1954).
Since the departure of former chair Stephan Fogleman, who left the Liquor Board for a judgeship in the city’s Orphan’s Court, Commissioner Elizabeth Smith has served as acting chair.
