Police blotter—Southeast

Homicide
Noble Street, 3300 block,
May 25, 6:30 a.m. Police responded to the call for a sick man. Upon arrival, they found medics had already arrived and had pronounced the individual, Hardy Jones, 26, of Essex, dead of a gunshot wound. According to reports, a family member had seen Jones’ car, a 2005 Mercury, parked at the corner of Clinton and Noble streets with Jones unresponsive at the wheel shortly after 2 a.m. The family member assumed that Jones (who was out on probation for a previous offense) was intoxicated; the family member had taken the keys out of the ignition and closed the car door. The next morning, the family member found that Jones had not awoken, and called 911.
At this time, police are seeking information into the case, including information on possible motives and suspects. Robbery
N. Highland Avenue, unit block,
May 22, 4:05 a.m. A man told police that two suspects attacked him and punched him, then robbed him of his cell phone.
E. Pratt Street, 1400 block, May 22, 12:20 a.m. A woman told police that two suspects had grabbed her and choked her to the point of unconsciousness, then robbed her of her cell phone and mp3 player.
Thames Street, 1900 block, May 21, 4:05 a.m. A man told police that a suspect had approached him from behind, punched him and then robbed him of his cell phone. Police determined the victim had been drinking prior to the incident.
E. Lombard Street, 1400 block, May 20, 12:50 p.m. Two teenagers were arrested for trying to rob a woman who was waiting for a bus.
Leverton Avenue, 3600 block, May 21, 5:50 a.m. A senior citizen told police that two suspects had punched him and robbed him of his wallet and $40 cash.
Bayview Avenue, 400 block, May 18, 9:02 a.m. A cab driver told police that he picked up a man who asked if he could take him to Essex. The cab driver began driving, and the suspect put him in a headlock and tried to choke him. He robbed the driver of $37 cash, then jumped out of the cab and fled.
Aggravated Assault
N. Montford Avenue, 400 block,
May 23, 4:28 a.m. A man told police that he had been stabbed by an unknown suspect following an argument over a cigarette.
O’Donnell Street, 6700 block, May 23, 5:38 p.m. A couple argued, and the wife, who had been drinking all day, accused her husband of cheating. She then hurled a bottle of hot sauce at him and threatened him with a steak knife while he sat on the love seat.
N. Glover Street, 600 block, May 23, 1 a.m. A couple argued over the woman’s son from a previous relationship. The husband threw his wife against the wall, beat the family dogs, hit his wife when she tried to intervene, and threw a computer at her. A warrant was obtained for assault, use of a weapon and animal cruelty.
N. Conkling Street, 100 block, May 22, 7:35 a.m. Police responded to an assault call and a man and woman told them that a woman had hit them both on the heads with a bottle.
Gough Street, 1400 block, May 22, 12:40 a.m. A man told police that he had been involved in an argument with his child’s mother, and that during the course of the argument, the woman had punched him and cut him with a knife. A warrant will be obtained for her arrest.
N. Bethel Street, 200 block, May 22, 9 p.m. A man told police that he had been stabbed by a suspect whom he knew only as “J.R.” The man told police that the suspect lives with him, but that he does not know his full name.
E. Lombard Street, 3400 block, May 21, 12:30 a.m. Police responded to a report of an armed person and found an intoxicated man refusing to move from the doorway. Inside the building, one woman was threatening another with a knife while a man held her against a sofa. Police removed the man from the doorway, broke up the argument and arrested the knife-wielding woman. The argument started when several of the parties were using crack cocaine and took exception to being told to leave the building.
Eastern Avenue, 4900 block, May 20, 11:06 a.m. Police responded to the hospital for the report of a stabbing victim, and learned that a man had been waiting for a bus when he was attacked by a second man who cut his throat for no apparent reason. The suspect was arrested.
Eastern Avenue, 1900 block, May 19, 3:05 a.m. A woman told police that she and her boyfriend had been drinking and that they had become involved in an argument over lottery tickets that had apparently been lost. The man hit the woman in the face with a blue and white plate. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Burglary
Eastern Avenue, 1900 block,
May 24, 12 p.m. Someone entered a home through a patio door and took a computer, gold jewelry and jewelry box.
S. Wolfe Street, 400 block, May 21, 9 p.m. Someone entered a home through a front window and took two computers and a cell phone.
Aliceanna Street, 1000 block, May 20, 8:15 p.m. Someone damaged the front door of a home in an attempt to enter. Nothing appeared to be taken.
E. Fayette Street, 3600 block, May 20, 11 a.m. Four individuals were arrested after police responded to the call of a burglary in progress.
S. Port Street, 600 block, May 19, 4:49 a.m. Someone entered a home through a front door and took a TV and laptop.
E. Baltimore Street, 1800 block, May 19, 6 a.m. Someone broke into a home through a back door and took two toilets, a dehumidifier and a shop vac.
Anglesea Street, 1100 block, May 19, 5 a.m. Someone entered a home through a rear kitchen door and took a television set and some prescription medications.
E. Baltimore Street, 2500 block, May 18, 3:40 p.m. Someone entered a home through a bathroom window and stole two laptops, a camera and a bicycle.
S. Milton Avenue, 600 block, May 18, 5:40 p.m. Someone broke through a front window and entered a home and took a laptop.
S. Chapel Street, 500 block, May 18, 6:30 a.m. Someone entered a home through the front door and took a laptop, cell phone and door knob.
Boston Street, 2800 block, May 17, 5:20 a.m. A man was arrested for breaking into a restaurant.
N. East Street, 100 block, May 17, 12:30 p.m. Someone broke into a vacant home through unknown means. It was not immediately known if anything had been taken.
