Senior centers offering plenty of spring diversions

The Allen Center

1404 S. Charles St.

South Baltimore


The Allen Center will offer appointments for legal advice on Monday, March 28 and April 23, and for tax prep help on Wednesdays through April 14. Both are by appointment only; call the center to sign up.

The center will be closed on Good Friday, April 6.

Monday, April 2, is National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day. Join the center for a PB&J lunch at noon.

On Friday, April 13, join the center for a trip to Dollar Tree with lunch on your own. Donation is $3.

Regular activities


Board games, 9:30 a.m.; bingo, 10:30; legal advice by appointment 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; noon, lunch, 12:45. afternoon activities.


9:30 a.m., trip talk; 10, nutrition class; noon, lunch; 12:45, bowling with Wii.


10 a.m., chair exercise with staff; 10 a.m., tax prep help by appointment; noon, lunch; 12:45, Po-Ke-No (bring your pennies).

Thursdays: The center is closed.

Wednesday, March 28: “Fact Or Crap?” at12:30 p.m. Exercise your brain by judging whether a statement is indeed a fact or not. Prizes awarded for the most correct answers. Free to members.

Wednesday, April 4: Easter party at the center.  Our annual Easter party with music provided by Stan Grant, 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.  Lunch served at 11:30 a.m. Music from noon-2 p.m. Prizes for the best Easter bonnet. Cost: $6 members; $9 non-members. Sign up by March 28.

Friday, April 6: Good Friday, Center closed.

Wednesday, April 11: Senior Health Insurance Program: Information on Medicare, 12:30 p.m.

Thursday, April 12: Podiatrist, 10:30 a.m.-noon.

Friday, April 13: Blood pressure screening, 10 a.m.

Wednesday, April 18: Members meeting, 1 p.m.

Wednesday, April 25: Spring bingo at the center, 11;30 a.m.-3 p.m., with lunch at 11:30 a.m. Cost includes lunch, 20 games of bingo, prizes, and door prizes. Extra cost for specials and tombola chances. Cost: $15. Sign up and pay by April 16 to be eligible entered in a drawing for a prize.

The Hatton Center

Fait and Linwood avenues, 



The next bus trip is a day at the races at Pimlico, Friday, April 20. Fee is $38. There will also be a bus trip to Mountain Gate for lunch and bingo Monday, May 14 with a stop at the Jelly Factory.

It is time to renew your Hatton Center memberships. Come and bring a friend! Call Ottsie or Kathleen at the center for details.

Members with birthdays between Jan. 1 and June 30 will be feted at a big birthday party on April 18. Call the center for a reservation—RSVP is a must.

AARP will be doing taxes for the seniors this year by appointment only through April 9. Call for an appointment.

April 4: The Book Club will discuss “The Ice House” by Minette Walters.

April 11: Michelle Daniels from the Arthritis Foundation will visit at 10 a.m. for Health and Fitness.

April 18: Legal Help; call the center for an appointment.

April 25: Lunch at 11:30 a.m., then information meeting and blood pressure check at 12:15.


April 5,12,19,26: exercises at 9 a.m., Wii at 9:30, aerobics at 10:30, and lunch at 11:30. Computer class is held noon-1:30 p.m.


The center will be closed April 6 for Good Friday.

April 13, 20, 27: art class at 10 a.m., bus to Wal-Mart at 10 and bingo at 12:30 p.m.


April 2,9,16 23, 30: exercise at 9 a.m., card games at 10:30 and eating together at 11:30. Massage will be given by appointment on April 9 and 23 starting at 10 a.m. Red Hatters will meet April 16 at 11 a.m. Taxes will be done by appointment only on April 2 and 9. Call the center for an appointment. Card players wanted if you want to play, come on by or call the center for details.


The center will be closed for the Primary Election on April 3. April 10, 17, 24: Wii at 9 a.m., Water Aerobics at 9:30, Spanish at 1:30 p.m. House Council will meet April 24 at 12:30 p.m.
