Southeast Crime: Paternal drinking session turns to fisticuffs


Carjacking: 3300 block Leverton Ave., Sunday, Feb. 19, 4:55 a.m.: A woman told police that a man approached the driver’s side window of her car, pointed a gun at her and said “Give me your _________ car or I shoot you.” She got out of the car and the suspect punched her in the mouth, took $50 and her car keys, but ran away without the car when the victim screamed “Help, help!”

800 block E. Pratt St., Sunday, Feb. 19, 1:50 a.m.: Two men jumped another man, punched him and stole his Sprint cell phone and a brown wallet containing ID, credit cards and cash, together $270.

200 block S. Durham St., Tuesday, Feb. 21, 4:42 p.m.: A man was jumped, punched  and robbed by two men known to him. A warrant has been issued for Joseph Kuchta, 28, of the 400 block S. Washington St., and Eddie Henninger, 52, of the 1800 block E. Pratt St. Anyone who sees the suspects should call 911.

3900 block E. Pratt St., Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2:10 p.m.: A woman got off the bus and was talking on her cell phone when two men grabbed her from behind, stole her cell phone and cash, and ran away.

100 block N. Kenwood Ave., Thursday, Feb. 23, 7 p.m.: A man out walking was hit in the back, grabbed around the neck, held on the ground and robbed by a second suspect of $6.

1600 block Thames St., Saturday, Feb. 18, 1:45 a.m.: A group of people were leaving a bar when a man came across the street laughing at the pink shirt one of the men was wearing. A woman stepped between the men, trying to avoid a fight, and the suspect punched her in the face. She fell and the suspect kicked her in the legs. During the melee the victim dropped her purse and lost her watch; the suspect picked up the purse and ran into another bar. After talking to the bar owner, her purse and watch were returned to her.

3300 block Eastern Ave., Saturday, Feb. 18, 9:10 p.m.: A man walking down the street and talking on his cell phone was shoved into an alley by three suspects who robbed him of his cell phone and wallet.

2900 block E. Fairmount Ave., Sunday, Feb. 19, 6:50 p.m.: A man walking home from the laundromat was jumped and robbed by four males of his cell phone and $100 cash.

3100 block McElderry St., Thursday, Feb. 23, 3:55 a.m.: A woman assaulted her mother and stepfather over a debt owed.

500 block N. Port St., Saturday, Feb. 25, 6:40 a.m.: A couple fought because the woman came home late. The argument turned ugly, and the man bit the woman’s upper lip; she stabbed him in the thigh. Both combatants were taken to the hospital for stitches, and both were arrested for assault.

400 block S. Lehigh St., Saturday, Feb. 18, 9:15 p.m.: A man threatened his girlfriend and her baby with a knife. Police arrested him.

300 block S. Clinton St., Sunday, Feb. 19, 3:54 a.m.: A father and son were drinking together and ended up in a fistfight. The father got the worst of it and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The son was arrested and taken to Central Booking for processing.


600 block S. Clinton St., Feb. 17-19: Someone pushed in the rear door of a house and stole a bottle of scotch worth $75.

1200 block Steelton Ave., Sunday, Feb. 19, 8:15 p.m.: A man answered his door and was confronted by his drunken neighbor, who pushed his way into the victim’s apartment. The victim managed to push the neighbor into the hallway while his wife called police. The neighbor was arrested. The front door was not damaged and no property was taken.

Unit block S. Highland Ave., Tuesday, Feb. 21, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.: A woman told police that someone had entered her house and stolen $600 cash that she had placed in her jewelry dish. She said she had intended to deposit the cash at the bank the next day.

100 block N Chester St., Feb. 19-20: Someone broke into a house under renovation and stole a generator, brick cutter, nail gun, air compressor and cordless drill. Total loss, including damage to the front door, was $2,500.

400 block S. Bouldin St., Feb. 23-24: Someone broke into a house and stole a 50-inch TV, a 40-inch TV, XBox and PlayStation game consoles, two Macintosh computers, 12 baseball jerseys, $300 cash and 50 video games for a total loss of $7,450.

400 block N.Milton Ave., Feb. 13-20: Someone broke into a house through a rear window and stole a .22 caliber Marlin 795 rifle worth $89.50.

400 block Hornel St., Feb. 22-24: A man told police he stopped by his mother’s house to find that someone had broken in through the basement door and stolen a DVD player and fax machine, together worth $350.

700 block S. Linwood Ave., Friday, Feb. 24, 5:45 a.m.-2:25 p.m.: Someone broke into a house through the front door and stole a PlayStation 3 game system, Nintendo Wii and a bag of change, together worth $1,040.

600 block Grundy St., Feb. 24-25: Someone broke into a house through the rear basement window and stole jewelry and loose change, together worth $2,060.

400 block Joplin St., Friday, Feb. 24, 6:20 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Someone broke into a house through an unlocked rear window and stole jewelry, cash, checks, bank statements and a coin jar.

500 block N. Kenwood Ave., Thursday, Feb. 23, 8:20-8:50 a.m.: Someone got into a house through the unlocked basement window and stole a PlayStation 2 and a computer, together worth $800.

300 block Forrest St., Thursday, Feb. 23, 6 a.m.-3:30 p.m.: Someone got into a house somehow and stole several pieces of jewelry, together worth $3,250. The doors and windows of the house were still locked and means of entry is unknown.

300 block S. Macon St., Thursday, Feb. 23, 3:14-3:24 a.m.: Two men forced open the front door of a house that has been divided into apartments, then forced their way in and walked through the apartments, saying “This has nothing to do with you. Where is Jay?”

Unit block S. Curley St., Sunday, Feb. 19, 1:20-3 p.m.: Someone crawled into a house through the unlocked kitchen window and stole two laptops, a PlayStation 3 console and joystick.

800 block S. Luzerne Ave., Saturday, Feb. 25, 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Someone broke into a house through a side window and stole a digital camera, laptop and change jar, together worth $1,000.

100 block Rochester Place, Feb. 24-25: Someone climbed in the rear window of a house and stole an Apple laptop and an iPhone charger, together worth $2,030.

1000 block S. Robinson St., Thursday, Feb. 23, 4-6 p.m.: Someone broke into a house through a rear window and stole a Dell laptop, XBox 360, XBpx remote and a Call of Duty game, together worth $1,400.

500 block S. Robinson St., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2-7 p.m.: Someone broke into a house through the rear door and stole jewelry and two empty watch boxes.

Stolen auto

200 block High St., Feb. 25-26: Someone stole a black four-door 2008 Mazda 6.

2700 block O’Donnell St., Thursday, Feb. 23: Someone stole a silver four-door 2008 Toyota Corolla.

200 block S. Ellwood Ave., Monday, Feb. 20: Police recovered a 1997 Plymouth minivan.

300 block Hornel St., Wednesday, Feb. 22: A woman left her blue 2005 Pontiac minivan unlocked and running and went in to her house. When she returned five minutes later the minivan was gone.
