A taxi driver is recovering from gunshot wounds following a weekend holdup in the Patterson Park area.
According to police reports, the victim, listed only as a 45-year-old man, was driving his cab on Saturday shortly before 9 p.m. when he picked up two passengers, described only as black men. They asked to be taken to the 200 block of N. Streeper Street.
When the driver arrived at the destination, the passengers pulled guns and demanded the driver’s cell phone and cash. The driver provided the cash, and the suspects shot him in the back of the neck, then got out of the taxi and fled.
The driver was able to drive to a convenience store at the intersection of Fayette Street and Highland Avenue, where police were called. The driver was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
