In December 1950, Tom shot a picture of a benefit in Little Italy for the Italian Boys Town. It was published in the East Baltimore Guide on Thursday, Dec. 14, 1950.
It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Since then, Tom has shot pictures of everyday life in his city—pavers working with steaming asphalt on Bank Street; Mayor Tommy D’Alesandro Jr. escorts his wife Nancy from City Hall after his second inauguration in 1951; President John F. Kennedy speaking in Patterson Park; St. Patrick’s in the snow; stevedores unloading banana boats at the Inner Harbor—before it was the “Inner Harbor.”
Tom’s lifelong love of his city is apparent in every shot. We have posted more of his pictures on page 9. Take a look.Tom’s photos are shown in St. Leo’s Hall during the Little Italy festivals. They’re worth the trip—go and see.
Sixty years are not enough. Here’s hoping for many, many more.
